Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct sets out the behaviour expected from everyone involved in Hope of Youth activities, projects, events, online spaces and collaborations.

​

It applies to:

  • Participants

  • Volunteers

  • Staff

  • Trainers

  • Facilitators

  • Youth workers

  • External experts

  • Partners

  • Visitors

  • Sending and hosting organisations

  • Anyone representing or engaging with Hope of Youth


1. General principles

​

Everyone involved with Hope of Youth must:

  • Treat others with dignity and respect

  • Support an inclusive and safe environment

  • Respect different cultures, identities, backgrounds and opinions

  • Follow the rules of the organisation and the specific activity

  • Respect the values and rules of the European Union, Erasmus+ and any other programme in which Hope of Youth participates

  • Act honestly, responsibly and lawfully

  • Avoid behaviour that harms others or damages the reputation of Hope of Youth or its partners


2. Respect and inclusion

Discrimination, harassment, bullying, humiliation, hate speech, intimidation, violence or exclusionary behaviour will not be tolerated.

​

This includes behaviour based on:

  • Race

  • Ethnic origin

  • Nationality

  • Religion or belief

  • Gender

  • Sexual orientation

  • Disability

  • Age

  • Social background

  • Language

  • Political or personal views

  • Any other personal characteristic


3. Harassment and misconduct

​

The following behaviour is prohibited:

  • Harassment or intimidation

  • Sexual harassment or unwanted sexual attention

  • Bullying or repeated hostile behaviour

  • Threats or violence

  • Offensive jokes or comments

  • Hate speech

  • Abuse of power or authority

  • Stalking or unwanted contact

  • Inappropriate behaviour towards minors

  • Sharing private information without permission

  • Taking or sharing photos/videos without permission

  • Retaliation against a person who reports a concern


4. Events, trainings and youth exchanges

During events, trainings, youth exchanges, workshops and mobility activities, all participants must:

  • Follow the instructions of organisers, trainers and facilitators

  • Respect schedules, safety rules and accommodation rules

  • Participate responsibly

  • Respect shared spaces

  • Avoid behaviour that puts themselves or others at risk

  • Respect local laws and cultural contexts

  • Inform organisers about urgent safety, health or wellbeing concerns

  • Follow any project-specific rules provided before or during the activity

5. Alcohol, drugs and unsafe behaviour

​

Participants must not engage in behaviour that creates risk for themselves or others.

​

Illegal drugs, violence, dangerous behaviour, coercion, pressure or any activity that violates local law, accommodation rules, project rules or programme rules is prohibited.

​

Alcohol, where permitted by law and event rules, must be consumed responsibly. Hope of Youth may prohibit alcohol entirely in certain activities, especially where minors are involved.

6. Online behaviour and social media

​

This Code of Conduct applies to online spaces connected to Hope of Youth, including:

  • WhatsApp or messaging groups

  • Email communication

  • Online meetings

  • Social media pages or groups

  • Project platforms

  • Digital learning spaces

​

Participants must not post or share abusive, discriminatory, sexual, violent, private, misleading or harmful content.

​

No one may publish photos, videos or private information about another person without permission.

​

7. Media and privacy

​

Participants must respect the privacy and image rights of others.

​

Photos and videos may only be taken and used according to the rules of the specific activity and the Hope of Youth Media Consent & Image Use Policy.

​

8. Respect for educational materials and resources

​

Hope of Youth materials are provided for educational and non-commercial purposes.

​

Participants and visitors must not copy, misuse, sell, misrepresent or exploit materials in a way that harms Hope of Youth, its partners, funders, participants or educational purpose.

9. Reporting misconduct

​

Anyone who experiences or witnesses misconduct may report it to Hope of Youth.

​

Reports may be sent to:

legal@hopeofyouth.org

​

Safeguarding-related concerns may also be reported under the Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.

​

Anonymous reports may be submitted and will be considered, although anonymous reporting may limit the ability to investigate fully.

​

10. Consequences of misconduct

​

Depending on the seriousness of the incident, Hope of Youth may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Informal discussion

  • Verbal or written warning

  • Request to stop the behaviour

  • Removal from a session or activity

  • Removal from accommodation or event spaces

  • Exclusion from the project or activity

  • Exclusion from future Hope of Youth activities

  • Notification to partners, sending organisations or funders

  • Report to competent authorities, where necessary

  • Legal action, where appropriate

In serious cases, Hope of Youth may immediately exclude a person without prior warning.

​

11. Decision-making

​

Final decisions in cases of misconduct may be made by the lawyer of the organisation together with the legal representative of Hope of Youth.

​

12. Acceptance

​

By participating in Hope of Youth activities, projects, events or online spaces, participants agree to respect this Code of Conduct.
